This book was an assigned reading and it was the most boring, difficult, and unfocused textbook I have ever had the misfortune to read. If I could give a rating of less than a star I would. Subsections in chapter were very difficult to follow and content was so difficult to follow that I have barely any memory of what was actually said even after immediately reading a section multiple times. Also aesthetically this book was atrocious, the font size and organization made it very difficult to read as well. Maybe drop the class that assigns this book so you don't have to suffer.

Very boring textbook about journalism history. Lots and lots of text, little graphics or images, not very interesting to read (and I like the content, just not this book's presentation of it).

Correct book, very rough condition. Tape on border, dog ears, freyed corners. All pages are there and it saved me a lot of money compared to the university bookstore

Good quality

The grammer and overall literary style is the least of the problems with this text. Overall it is a reflection of the mass media that it portends to be chronicling. Its factual inaccuracies, lack of historical depth, perpensity towards over-simplification, combined with the bad writing all conspire to make this text an example of the inadequacies of the mass media that pervades society, while providing very little real understanding of what the media has meant to the development of American society. Understandably, it is one of the few texts to deal with the subject and it does make a noble effort at synthesing a great deal of information, but higher demands of both grammer style and factual accuracy should have been placed upon it. As a high school text it may work, but I find it severely lacking in the meat of true historical analysis and understanding of the media within American society. One would find a much better historical analysis of the media in Michael Schudson's "Discovering the News." Though limited in scope, it provides the historical and social analysis that this book is sorely lacking.

...this book is very strong on explaining the basic load transfer mechanisms associated with composite beams, slabs and columns. It also provides a detailed coverage of the fatigue behaviour of composite members. All these issues are treated at length using a mixture of descriptions of the basic phenomena (assisted by very clear figures), presentation of the mathematical basis and selected worked examples.... It will, form an excellent library volume, since its international style and concentration on fundamentals means that it should not date too quickly. For those with a real interest in composite construction, the clarity of presentation and comprehensive coverage make the book a very worthwhile investment.

This book covers composite structures in a very comprehensive and complete manner.... Many advanced topics are covered...suitable for postgraduate courses and will be invaluable to design engineers encountering these problems. The many diagrams and worked examples are excellent and very clearly presented.

About the Author

DAAN J.A. CROMMELIN is Professor at the Department of Pharmaceutics at Utrecht University. Until December 2011 he was scientific director of the Dutch Top Institute Pharma in Leiden. He is adjunct professor at the Department of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Utah. Dr. Crommelin is co-founder of OctoPlus, a Leiden based company specialized in the development of pharmaceutical product formulations and advanced drug delivery systems. He published over 335 articles and has held leadership positions at the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) and the European Federation for Pharmaceutical Sciences (EUFEPS).

ROBERT D. SINDELAR is currently President, The Providence Health Care Research Institute, Vice President Research and Academic, Providence Health Care (part of the British Columbia public health care system), Professor Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Associate Dean Research Faculty of Medicine The University of British Columbia (UBC).  He served for 11 years as Dean and Professor, The UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences following 19 years at the University of Mississippi where he held the positions of Professor and Chair of Medicinal Chemistry, School of Pharmacy and served as Interim Dean.  Dr. Sindelar’s expertise lies in medicinal chemistry, computer-aided drug discovery and design, pharmaceutical biotechnology, and creating opportunities to integrate innovation into the health care system.  His research work resulted in significant extramural funding and 70 refereed journal articles, six U.S. patents, and over 100 scientific and professional presentations.  He has been active in promoting the profession of pharmacy and the biotechnology community. Dean Sindelar has helped build a unified vision for the future of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences education in BC and beyond and has been inducted as a fellow in the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.

BERND MEIBOHM is Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Programs at the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy in Memphis. His area of expertise lies in clinical pharmacology and pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamics correlations. Dr. Meibohm obtained his doctoral degree in Pharmaceutics from the Technical University Carolo-Wilhelmina, Braunschweig, Germany and received postdoctoral training at the University of Florida, Gainesville. Dr. Meibohm is a fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists and the American College of Clinical Pharmacology, and has published three textbooks, more than 90 peer-reviewed research articles and book chapters, 130 abstracts, and over 100 invited scientific presentations to national and international audiences.

I have sixteen books on the subject of alcoholism. None of them, including this one, address the subject of close-family involvement in recovery. Yes. They all touch on the subject, but it gets far too little detailed coaching and instruction for family and friends who are close to the 'patient'. And can make a profound difference in the alcoholics life.Signed: A Grieving Father of three weeks.

I went into long term treatment here in De Lend, FL. I had to leave the treatment center because of sickness. One of the councilors that taught groups recommended to me to buy this book and read it. As soon as I got home I ordered this book from Amazon and it arrived two days later (that's Amazon!) I am still reading this book, 3/4 through and this book has suck great explained educational material on alcohol & drug addiction. I highly recommend anyone having a problem staying clean & sober, please buy this book because you will learn so much about yourself, I did...Mike

Thank God for TTG, and the relapse synapse. Because, until we make the psychological, emotional, spiritual, connections that create the junctures, that cause us to keep doing the same things, while we, look for different results. Moreover, my nearly 50 years of living in recovery could not have been possible, without TTG, and Ashley, and relapse prevention. Those three things were the connections that I needed to make the changes that were necessary for​ my life. Without a guide, roadmap, or directional device, "We" who are recovering, are truly doomed to addictive repetition.

I believe this is my first 5-star review.Staying Sober provides incredibly useful insights into alcohol addiction and useful tools for recognizing potential relapse triggers and symptoms.Especially useful is Chapter IX - Family Involvement in the Relapse Syndrome. In most cases, codependents are adversely affected by the alcoholic and may not be aware of it. This chapter described my wife's condition exactly and demonstrated her need to seek counseling as well. It has helped her understand OUR conditions and we are progressing better together as a result.

I bought this book a while ago, and just FINALLY got around to reading it. I am glad I did! It is VERY informative, and has lots of information and explanations for things. Despite the medical and scientific content, it is written VERY clearly and simply. (It does not require any special knowledge to understand it all). It combines the scientific/ medical views with A.A. (Alcoholics Anonymous) views on sobriety and how to prevent relapse. This book expands upon the 12 steps, focusing more on relapse prevention planning.This book would be VERY helpful to people who have relapsed. It would also benefit people who have not relapsed to read this to avoid ever having to go down that road. This book would ALSO benefit a non-alcoholic/ non-addict, as it clearly represents addiction overall. There is also a section on co-addicts, which are people who are directly affected by an addict - such as a spouse are child.i HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!

I have referred this book as often as I have to opportunity to do so for people new in recovery. It will help them to understand the mental and physiological changes that will be occurring within their first 18-24 months of sobriety. This book provides concrete information to encourage people to be more forgiving of themselves with the challenges they will be facing and to know it's okay and everyone new in recovery deals with the same challenges.I also recommend this book to people who are not aware, that even though the substance has been physically removed from the body, there are long term physiological challenges that need to be accommodated. These people need to be patient with the person not being able to remember well, that the person will initially experience high anxiety, not being able to deal with a lot of stress.

An amazing, timeless book that helps addicts who fall pray to relapse understand why it's happening and the cycle they're stuck in. I cannot say enough about how much it helps alcoholic's partners (co-dependents/families) understand their partner and the role alcohol addiction is also playing in their lives.I lost my alcoholic partner after 14 years - he passed away at 34. He was given this book in a long-term rehab. He felt very strongly about it and sent one to me. I share it whenever I see fit, and I've ordered this book for others.

This book is ideal for the sufferer and the clinician as well. As a student teaching Relapse Prevention in a jail setting it has become an invaluable tool for working with this population. This book is spot on when covering the multiple aspects of addiction and it's bio (body)-psycho (mind)-social (family & friends) effects of addiction on the individual. It's a MUST have for your professional library.
