It is hard to find a book that has everything enjoyable in it. This is such a delightful book with a perfect ending. From simple shepherdess to king's pet in 2.5 seconds, Sariah is a joy to watch her development and trials and punishments. As Griffen finds his emotions deepening for his "pet", he realizes that for true happiness, then he will have to free her. You will be moved to find the wide range of emotions reading this book. You won't be able to put it down until you finish reading it. This is the best book I have read in some time.

It is a very rare thing nowadays to find a book that has everything in it. Superb plot, drama, intrigue, suspense, love, challenge, strife and the list could go on. Both the H&h were so strong and independent, yet so loving and caring. Even the mild BDSM showed the caring nature. If all books were as great as this would I would gladly go broke buying them.

I'm not going to rehash the thorough discussions of other reviewers except to echo the sentiment that I feel like I was listening to a hilarious joke only to have the joke teller forget the entire punch line! Great first two books but I feel like the author painted herself into a corner and couldn't come up with a satisfying ending so she left her readers literally hanging with our mouths open in disbelief! What was that ending? It was going so well only for it to go so badly at the end!

A well written story of a couple finding their love for one another against the backdrop of a people moving from barbarians to civilized peoples. Despite their differences they cannot help but feel the growing love and passion growing between them as he brings forth her submissive side and breaks his hard nature into that of a loving partner. The spanking scenes and anal play are detailed without being graphic.

Story held together well, altho it was very very simple and not much to read.

Loki is an excellent writer, I've really enjoyed the books I've read written by her but they are short. I'd buy more books if they were longer or the same length but cost less.

I was worried there would not be a hea ending, but I was pleasantly surprised. I would read more of author's writings. (And I have!!).

Great story here! I'm definitely checking out the other books by this same author!

This is an astounding and magnificent book - and I have written 11 myself, none which come close to this book. The discussion on "Los Angeles Against the Mountains" is worth the money alone - as harrowing as it is extraordinary. John McFee is an incredibly gifted writer. If you want to understand why the 2018 Monticeto mudslides happened, go no further, this is your book. After reading it, there is simply no excuse to be surprised at anything that happened there.

For the reader with a technical mind or an interet in science, this is a highly entertaining must-read account of three of man's failed efforts to control nature: an attempt to control lava-flow in Iceland, the losing flood-control war near the Mississippi Delta (written well prior to the actual failure and predicting much of what actually happened), and the doomed construction on the hills and canyons east of Los Angeles. McPhee tell of impending doom in a way that makes us laugh at the arrogant folly of mankind. In any battle, Mother Nature will always win.

Wanna hear what happens when humans try and stop a volcano from reaching a town, or how about limiting the extent of flooding from the Mississippi River? Better yet, lets talk about how people are building homes in one of the most unstable landscapes where fire has been excluded for >100yrs and rich people decide it's the only way to get out of the smoggy mess that is LA (then complain about landslides and fires near their homes)?A great portrayal of how Mother Nature will do what she feels like. I have read a couple books from McPhee and it's surprising to know he is not a geologist. I was surprised with his proper usage of geologic terms and, as always, his ability to manipulate words allowing readers to picture the landscapes around the world. Great read and, as a geologist, thoroughly impressed with his complete/easy to understand mechanisms behind the forces of Nature.

Just what the title says; people trying to control nature. A volcano in Iceland. Keeping the Mississippi from changing course. And my favorite, LA Against The Mountains. If you're ever in LA, take a trip up La Crescenta Ave and Pine Tree Road to see the places described. John McPhee's reputation over 50 years stands as the best non-fiction writer, in my opinion, and this is probably his most accessible for people to visit the site.

As a former teacher and geologist I am always interested by how people interact with the world around them: The one word answer is "BADLY". People just don't get it, either because of ignorance or stupidity. McPhee tries to educate the former (the latter are beyond hope). Anyone with a desire to learn more about the world around us should read this book. McPhee writes for understanding, so whether you are a college professor or a high school student who wants to avoid the mistakes of those who are supposed to know better, this book is for you.

Excellent book by John McPhee on man's attempts to "Control" nature.McPhee is a wonderful author who brings technical topics readily accessible to any reader, while bringing in the human element of those who practice their craft, in this case - engineering.

This book really opened my eyes to a lot of dangerous situations in nature that are being lived with everyday with very little publicity. It caused me to do some research on my own location. Nature will eventually prevail.

This was a thrilling read and fired my interest in understanding the mechanics of volcanos and rivers, the agencies on the front line, and the policies that have led to these unwinnable confrontations. It made me feel very small, and also a pest at cocktail parties as I am compelled to share my newfound knowledge.

This book was an assigned reading and it was the most boring, difficult, and unfocused textbook I have ever had the misfortune to read. If I could give a rating of less than a star I would. Subsections in chapter were very difficult to follow and content was so difficult to follow that I have barely any memory of what was actually said even after immediately reading a section multiple times. Also aesthetically this book was atrocious, the font size and organization made it very difficult to read as well. Maybe drop the class that assigns this book so you don't have to suffer.

Very boring textbook about journalism history. Lots and lots of text, little graphics or images, not very interesting to read (and I like the content, just not this book's presentation of it).

Correct book, very rough condition. Tape on border, dog ears, freyed corners. All pages are there and it saved me a lot of money compared to the university bookstore

Good quality

The grammer and overall literary style is the least of the problems with this text. Overall it is a reflection of the mass media that it portends to be chronicling. Its factual inaccuracies, lack of historical depth, perpensity towards over-simplification, combined with the bad writing all conspire to make this text an example of the inadequacies of the mass media that pervades society, while providing very little real understanding of what the media has meant to the development of American society. Understandably, it is one of the few texts to deal with the subject and it does make a noble effort at synthesing a great deal of information, but higher demands of both grammer style and factual accuracy should have been placed upon it. As a high school text it may work, but I find it severely lacking in the meat of true historical analysis and understanding of the media within American society. One would find a much better historical analysis of the media in Michael Schudson's "Discovering the News." Though limited in scope, it provides the historical and social analysis that this book is sorely lacking.

...this book is very strong on explaining the basic load transfer mechanisms associated with composite beams, slabs and columns. It also provides a detailed coverage of the fatigue behaviour of composite members. All these issues are treated at length using a mixture of descriptions of the basic phenomena (assisted by very clear figures), presentation of the mathematical basis and selected worked examples.... It will, form an excellent library volume, since its international style and concentration on fundamentals means that it should not date too quickly. For those with a real interest in composite construction, the clarity of presentation and comprehensive coverage make the book a very worthwhile investment.

This book covers composite structures in a very comprehensive and complete manner.... Many advanced topics are covered...suitable for postgraduate courses and will be invaluable to design engineers encountering these problems. The many diagrams and worked examples are excellent and very clearly presented.
